How to Remove Microsoft Report Button from Outlook
The Report button in Outlook lets users flag phishing and junk to Microsoft, but not every organization wants it — some use a third-party tool, others route reports elsewhere, and some simply want a cleaner ribbon. Whatever the reason, the built-in Report button is controlled centrally, so you remove it from one place rather than per mailbox. In this guide you will learn where the button comes from and how to turn it off cleanly.
Where the button comes from
Modern Outlook shows a built-in Report button that is governed by the user-reported settings in Microsoft Defender. Older environments may instead have the separate Report Message or Report Phishing add-in. Knowing which one you have tells you where to go: the Defender portal for the built-in button, or the Microsoft 365 admin center for the add-in.

Remove the Report Message add-in
If a Report Message or Report Phishing add-in is deployed, remove it separately in the Microsoft 365 admin center under Settings, then Integrated apps. Select the add-in and remove or restrict its deployment.
Frequently asked questions
Does this apply to OWA and new Outlook too?
The built-in setting governs the Report button across the Outlook clients that support it, not just the classic desktop app.
Will users still be able to report messages?
Not with the built-in button once it is off. Decide whether you want an alternative reporting path first.
Where is the add-in managed?
In the Microsoft 365 admin center under Settings, then Integrated apps.
Can I hide it for only some users?
The built-in button setting is organization-wide; add-in deployment, however, can be scoped to specific groups.
Does turning it off reduce protection?
It only removes the manual reporting button. Your automated filtering and policies are unaffected.
